19th Century Oak Commode
We sourced this handsome early 19th Century chest of drawers from a local man in the Cotswolds.
He inherited it from his Grandmother who lived in Brussels. A beautifully made piece of 200 year old furniture in oak that has a great colour. Even though it has been through an earthquake in New Zealand ( with the current owner ), his grandmother took great care of her furniture as you can tell by the regularly waxed, and therefore smooth, running drawers.
There is some minor damage to the top right of some of the drawers as pointed out in the pics.
Interestingly to the underside of one of the drawers is glued a poster, Dated 1818 advertising a series of lectures on academic studies .. " Maths, Geology, Botanics, Pathology, Medicine and even Ancient Roman Artefacts". Amongst other subjects, all written in Latin.
95 cm h x 130 w x 65 d.
