Antique Champagne Bottle Riddling Rack

These vintage racks were sourced near Reims in France.

 

A riddling rack was used to hold champagne bottles so that the sediment collected in the neck of the bottle.  This part of the bottle is then frozen and the plug containing the sediment removed.

 

Although these are dated 1972, they are clearly much older than that, going by the iron feet and the nails used probably in the 19th century.

 

These actually hold any bottle and are also very useful for dividing up space.
