Large 1930s Pine Shop Counter with Drawers

A large 1930s pine shop counter, originally from the jewellery department of House of Fraser's flagship Oxford Street store in London, which closed its doors for the final time in January 2022. The building dates from 1937, and we believe this piece was made around the same time.

Constructed from pine, it has a lovely warm colour and patina, with an impressive bank of drawers and two glazed cupboards. The drawers have an assortment of different handles, adding to its character, and some still retain their original department store labels, including 'Necklaces', 'Jewellery' and 'Bridal', which we particularly like. At just over three metres long, it would make a wonderful large sideboard or shop counter, with plenty of useful storage.

In good overall condition, with the usual bumps, marks and scrapes from age and use. Two of the drawers have some damage along their top edges, but nothing that detracts from the overall character of the piece.
