Mid-20th Century French Carved Oak Sideboard

A wonderfully substantial mid-20th century French oak sideboard, probably dating from around the 1950s, with beautifully detailed carving throughout and a lovely warm colour and patina.

An impressive and exceptionally heavy piece of furniture, with four thick panelled cupboard doors, four drawers above and decorative wrought iron hinges, handles and fittings. The quality of the carving is particularly lovely, with elaborate floral and scrolling decoration across the doors, beautifully carved uprights and a continuous decorative border running around the top. The two central doors feature carved portrait medallions surrounded by foliage, giving the piece a rather grand, traditional French appearance.

Very solid and well made, with a wonderful sense of quality and craftsmanship. The oak has developed a lovely mellow colour over time, with plenty of character and depth to the timber. In great condition overall, with a few bumps, scrapes and signs of age, all part of its charm. A fantastic statement piece that would work beautifully in a large kitchen, dining room or sitting room.
