Pair of 19th Century Italian Walnut Chest of Drawers
A beautiful pair of late 19th century Italian walnut chest of drawers with exceptional warmth, character and wonderfully timeworn surfaces throughout.
Recently sourced directly from a large house in Milan, the pair remain largely untouched and retain a wonderful sense of authenticity and age. Importantly, they have not been heavily restored or over-refinished, allowing the natural patina, surface wear and historic character to remain entirely intact. Even the original fabric lining within the drawers has been preserved, adding another layer of charm and honesty to the pieces.
Constructed in walnut with rich aged tones and soft figuring, the chest of drawers retain a calm understated elegance that works effortlessly within both traditional and contemporary interiors. The proportions are particularly pleasing, with simple moulded drawer fronts, original handles and beautifully aged surfaces that have developed depth and patina over many decades.
The natural wear to the edges, subtle surface markings and softened finish all contribute to their relaxed lived-in character and beautifully honest appearance. There are historic signs of old woodworm in places, typical of antique furniture of this age, which have been professionally retreated as a precautionary measure. The drawers run lovely and smooth.
A timeless and highly versatile pair of Italian antique chest of drawers that would sit equally well within a pared-back contemporary interior, country house or softer Mediterranean-inspired setting.
