Early 20th Century French Parquetry Coffee Table
A beautifully constructed early 20th century French coffee table featuring an intricate parquetry top with striking geometric detailing and wonderfully aged natural colour throughout.
Made using pitch pine, the top has developed a rich warm honey tone over the decades with darker edging and subtle tonal variation that gives the piece tremendous depth and character. The parquetry arrangement creates a strong architectural feel whilst still retaining a relaxed rustic warmth typical of French country furniture from the period.
Raised on substantial turned legs connected with shaped stretchers, the table has a reassuringly solid presence and generous proportions, making it an ideal centrepiece for a sitting room or relaxed family space.
The contrast between the lighter aged timber top and the darker stained base works particularly well and allows the geometric design of the parquetry to stand out beautifully. It would sit comfortably within rustic farmhouse interiors, more refined country homes or contemporary spaces wanting warmth and texture from antique furniture.
A decorative yet highly practical piece with excellent scale and timeless French character. In good structural condition with some signs of worm which we have treated to be on the safe side. We have finished the top with a matt lacquer - good for cups of tea and wine spills.
