Ebonised Bobbin Chair c.1900 English
A distinctive English ebonised bobbin chair dating from around 1900, retaining its original porcelain castors and hand-caned seat.
The chair is defined by its striking bobbin-turned frame, with boldly turned front legs, decorative seat rails and an elegant geometric back formed from finely turned spindles. The deep ebonised finish has worn beautifully over time, revealing hints of the timber beneath and adding to its character and authenticity.
Raised on original porcelain castors to the front legs, the chair has a wonderfully sculptural quality and sits comfortably between the Aesthetic Movement and Arts & Crafts periods. The hand-caned seat complements the dark finish perfectly, creating a piece that feels both decorative and practical.
A highly decorative occasional chair that would work equally well in a bedroom, hallway, dressing room or as an accent chair within a living space.
Structurally sound with age-related wear, marks and rubbing to the ebonised finish consistent with age and use. Although the can is old it has been replaced at some stage.
