Exceptional Mid-18th-Century French Walnut Farmhouse Table

An exceptional mid-18th-century French farmhouse table, sourced in Provence in the South of France. Made from walnut, it has beautifully balanced proportions, a generous framed top and a rich, warm colour developed over more than two centuries.

The table retains its original varnished surface, complete with historic marks, water marks and a deeply aged patina. The walnut beneath has darkened considerably through natural oxidation. Particularly appealing is the visible wear to the lower stretchers, caused by generations of people resting their feet upon them.

Structurally very sturdy and exceptionally heavy, this is the finest farmhouse table I have found in twenty years as an antiques dealer. Its original finish has been deliberately preserved rather than stripped and refinished, retaining the character and history of the piece.

Please note the picture with the chairs  and the kitchen scene has been created using Ai to give an indication of scale.  Note that it has adjusted the table top and is not very accurate !!
