Pair of Czech Mid-Century Lounge Chairs Attributed to František Jirák
An exceptional pair of Czech mid-century lounge chairs attributed to František Jirák for Tatra Nábytok, dating from the 1960s and recently restored and re-upholstered in a heavyweight natural antique linen.
With their sculptural bentwood arms, clean architectural lines and beautifully balanced proportions, these chairs perfectly capture the understated elegance of post-war Czech modernist furniture design. Their relaxed organic feel sits somewhere between Scandinavian modernism and Central European functionalism, giving them a timeless quality that works effortlessly within both contemporary and traditional interiors.
The warm timber frames contrast beautifully against the soft natural linen upholstery, creating a calm and refined look whilst retaining a strong sculptural presence.
Comfortable as well as visually striking, they work particularly well in contemporary country homes, lime-rendered interiors, modern rustic spaces and softer minimalist settings where natural textures and aged materials are layered together.
The heavyweight antique linen upholstery gives the chairs a softer and more elevated appearance than many of the darker original fabrics commonly associated with mid-century seating of this period.
A highly decorative and wonderfully usable pair of Czech modernist lounge chairs with superb form and some patina to the woodwork.
